Compare Infinix Note 7 vs Tecno Camon 15 Pro

Announced in April, the Infinix Note 7 is the latest announced smartphone coming from Infinix and it is expected to be out anytime soon. The Camon 15 Pro on the other hand is not the latest phone from Tecno. After it are the Spark 5 and Spark 5 Air.

Treated in this article are the differences between the Infinix Note 7 and the Tecno Camon 15 Pro which invariably makes one better than the other or at least, more preferable than the other. If you haven’t read our review or full specifications of these phones, you probably should check them out. Also don’t forget to share this article on your social medias.

Design and Display

Design-wise, the Infinix Note 7 and the Tecno Camon 15 Pro are notably different. From the size to the rear design and even the frontal.

The Note 7 measures out at 6.95-inches, making it a bigger device compared to the Camon 15 pro which is 6.6-inches. Both phones however are made of glass fronts, plastic frames and plastic backs. But while the Camon 15 Pro came with no extra protection, the Note 7 is expected to come with a Corning Gorilla Glass.

The camera positioning is also significantly different. The Camon 15 Pro’s selfie camera is in a pop-up socket while the Note 7’s selfie camera is in a punch hole at the top-left side of the display. Also, Infinix chose a totally different location and arrangement for the rear camera.

While Tecno sticks to the most common location for rear cameras on the Camon 15 Pro, Infinix moves the camera array on the Note 7 (seated on a disk) to the center-top (popular place for fingerprint scanner); thereby moving the fingerprint scanner to the phone’s side.

The Infinix Note 7 comes in 3 colors which are Forest Green, Aether Black and Bolivia Blue. The Tecno Camon 15 Pro on the other hand comes in 2 colors. They’re Ice Jadeite and Opal White.

Despite being smaller, the Camon 15 Pro features a better display than the Infinix Note 7.

While the Camon 15 Pro sports a 6.6 inches IPS LCD maxing out at 1080 x 2340 pixels with 394 dots per inch pixels density. The Note 7 sports a 6.95 inches IPS LCD maxing out at 720 x 1640 pixels with 2

Platform, Storage & Battery

Despite having better display features, the Camon 15 Pro seems to fall short in terms of the platform on which it runs. Yes, both phones come with Android 10 pre-installed and both phones run MediaTek Chipsets. The Chipset models however are different and powered by different CPUs.

While the Camon 15 Pro sports Mediatek Helio P35 (MT6765) chipset powered by Arm Octa-core (4×2.35 GHz Cortex-A53 & 4×1.8 GHz Cortex-A53) CPU and PowerVR GE8320 (680Mhz) GPU, the Note 7 sports Mediatek Helio G70 chipset powered by Arm Octa-Core (2×2.0 GHz Cortex-A75 & 6×1.7 GHz Cortex-A55) CPU and Mali-G52 2EEMC2 (820Mhz) GPU.

Please don’t be fooled by the number of GHz. Instead pay attention to the CPU model. While the Cortex-A53 is a low performance CPU, the Cortex-A55 is a mid-range CPU and the Cortex-A75 is a high performance CPU. A combo of Cortex-A53 will definitely not stand a chance against a combo of Cortex-A55 and Cortex-A75.

From the Chipset to the CPU, the Note 7 trolls the Camon 15 Pro. This however is not a surprise. After all, Infinix Note series are made for gaming and other heavy tasks.

Storage capacity is also important in a smartphone. The Camon 15 Pro comes in a single release which features 128 gigabyte of storage and 6 gigabyte of RAM. This is the maximum you can get from any Helio P35 device. The Note 7 on the other hand offers 3 variants which include and are limited to 64GB ROM + 4GB RAM, 128GB ROM + 4GB RAM and 128GB ROM + 6GB RAM.

As mentioned above the Helio G70 is way out of the Helio P35’s league. Hence, it has the capacity to accommodate more RAM. This is why I’m predicting the Note 7 Pro to come with 8GB of RAM.

Both smartphones come with rather large batteries. The Infinix Note 7 features a 5,000 mAh Li-Po battery – typical of Infinix – and the Tecno Camon 15 Pro features a 4,000 mAh Li-Po battery. Despite the difference in battery capacity, there may not be much difference in their battery lives. This is because the ARM Cortex-A53 CPU is highly power-efficient; being a low-performance CPU.

Camera, Comms & Network

For photo and media lovers, these phones offer good camera. Although they both sport quad rear camera setup, the camera features are slightly different. For the Camon, we have 48MP (wide) + 5MP (macro) + 2MP (depth) + QVGA while for the Note, we have 48MP (wide) + 2MP (macro) + 2MP (depth) + 2MP (dedicated video camera) – 128/6 model only.

We believe the QVGA in the Camon 15 Pro to be equivalent of the 2MP dedicated video camera in the Note 7 128/6gb model. Also, I do not consider the difference to be a big deal since they both offer the same mega pixels on the main lens. However, the Camon 15 Pro offers 32MP selfie camera while the Note 7 offers 16MP.

Both phones come with almost the same comms and network features. The only difference being made manifest in the network bands. That will not make it to this article though.

Both phones offer GSM, HSPA and LTE network technologies but the Note 7 has more 4G bands. For comms, we get WLAN (Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Wi-Fi direct), Bluetooth 5.0, GPS with A-GPS, FM Radio and microUSB 2.0 with support for USB On-The-Go.

Price in Nigeria.

None of these smartphones is yet on sale in Nigeria. The Note 7 is even yet to be released. The Camon 15 however, featuring 64GB ROM and 4GB RAM falls between #70,000 and #75,000 on Jumia. Since the Camon 15 Pro has more features and better specs, we expect it to fall between #80,000 and #85,000 which I must say, is very expensive. We have no idea how much the Note 7 will cost yet and we do not want to guess. We’d rather be patient.

From the information above, it is very obvious that the Infinix Note 7 is a better device than the Tecno Camon 15 Pro. Even though the Camon 15 Pro offers better display features. If I’m getting one of these, it’s definitely the Note 7.
