iPhone Xs Max vs Galaxy Note 9 Comparison

The iPhone Xs Max vs Galaxy Note 9 comparison is one that is inspired by each brand’s fans desire for information about them. Apple and Samsung happen to be very popular names in the mobile and communication industry. In fact, while Samsung takes the lead by holding the largest share of the global smartphone market, Apple stays close by occupying the 3rd position. Huawei sits between them.

Coming from Apple and Samsung, these phones have certain things in common. However, these things do not include any of the major features like display and cpu. Stuffs like that. In the next couple of minutes, let’s see what and what make up each device. Then, how and why one is better than the other.

There are 4 versions of the Xs Max in total. The A2101 is for the Global market, the A1921 is for USA, Canada, Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands while the A2104 is for China and Hong Kong and the A2102 is for Japan. These phones are released at the same time and there’s little to no difference between them.

The iPhone Xs Max was released in September 2018 and all its organs are crammed inside a 6.5 inches glass and steel body. Front and back being made of glass. It’s IP68 certified for dust and water resistant. Up to 2 meters for 30 mins. Its has single and dual sim models but the dual sim ones are made for China.

This phone comes in 3 colours which are Space Gray, Silver and Gold. We have the U-notch design above Apple’s Super Retina OLED capacitive touchscreen. All other bezels are completely eliminated. The display is 1242 x 2688 pixels in resolution and has a density of 458 pixels per inch. The glass is scratch resistant and comes with oleophobic coating. That keeps water off the screen.

The Xs Max comes with Apple’s proprietary A12 Bionic (7 nm) chip. The A12 Bionic features a Hexa-core (2×2.5 GHz Vortex + 4×1.6 GHz Tempest) CPU along with Apple’s 4-Cored graphics processor. It comes with iOS 12 which is upgradable to iOS 13.5. The Vortex cores are high performance cores while the Tempest cores are power efficient. Together, they balance the phone’s operations with battery life.

iPhones do not support sdCard. That’s not a new fact though. The Xs Max is not any different. You may not even need an sdCard at all. This smartphone has 3 variants which are 64GB + 4GB RAM, 256GB + 4GB RAM and 512GB + 4GB RAM. Apple doesn’t seem to be a believer of big RAMs. Since their chip + CPU combos are always up to all processing tasks.

The following sensors are found on the phone: Face ID, accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass, barometer and Siri natural language commands and dictation. The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 was released a month earlier than the Xs Max – August 2018. It is a 6.4 inches smartphone built with gorilla glass at the front and back and aluminium frame. It also single and double sim variants. The double sim model sporting a hybrid slot to accommodate the sdcard’s house. It is IP68 dust/water resistant (up to 1.5m for 30 mins)

The Note 9 comes in 6 colours which are Metallic Copper, Lavender Purple, Ocean Blue, Midnight Black, Pure White and Alpine White. It keeps the top and bottom bezels while the edges are curved. In-between these bezels sits the Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen. The display is 1440 x 2960 pixels with 516 pixels density.

Phones going to USA, LATAM (Latin America) and China feature Snapdragon 845 (10 nm) chipset from Qualcomm. This chip comes with Octa-core (4×2.8 GHz Kryo 385 Gold & 4×1.7 GHz Kryo 385 Silver) CPU and Adreno 630 graphics processor.

On the other hand, the ones going to EMEA (Europe, the Middle East and Africa) or Global markets feature Samsung’s Exynos 9810 (10 nm) which brings with it an Octa-core (4×2.7 GHz Mongoose M3 & 4×1.8 GHz Cortex-A55) CPU and Mali-G72 MP18 graphics processor.

The Snapdragon’s Gold and Silver cores are high performance and power efficient respectively. Same as the Exynos’s Mongoose M3 and Cortex-A55. They also balance the phone’s operations with the battery consumption. However, all models come with Android 8.1 (Oreo) spiced with One UI 2.0. The Android version is upgradable up to Android 10.

The Galaxy Note 9 has 6GB and 8GB RAM versions with 128GB and 256GB internal memory respectively. It also supports micro sdCard through the hybrid slot. You may never need it though. A larger doesn’t imply that the processors are weak. It only allows the device to keep more running programs in its active memory for fast retrieval. It’s also because Android needs more RAM to run smoothly due to the way it’s built to accommodate multiple hardwares.

iPhone Xs Max vs Galaxy Note 9: Verdict

Despite the story above, it all comes down to the winner. Which one outperforms the other? The Xs Max or the Note 9?? Well, while both phones are labelled as Editors Choice, the Xs Max does a better job than the Note 9. The A12 Bionic chip is a better CPU than both the Snapdragon and the Exynos.

While the Note 9 illuminates dark pictures better, the Xs Max shoots are more detailed and its bokeh is better. The iPhone’s face id is more secure than the Note 9’s but the Note 9 has a better battery.

Overall though, the fastest – which could also mean smartest – wins the race. Although not with so much ease. The Note 9 has more to give. Eg, lesser price, storage expansion, pen etc. Also note that both phones only have up to 4G.

That’ll be all for this comparison. I hope you enjoyed it. If it’s yes, then share this article with your friends.
