Nokia 6.1 Plus Review and Price in Nigeria

Nokia 6.1 plus review is the first article dedicated to a Nokia product on this blog. Not that we hate Nokia, we simply lost them in the crowd. Nokia is a company we’re very much familiar with in Nigeria. Back in the days, they ruled the global mobile phone market before hitting bankruptcy in 2013.

In 2014, Microsoft partially acquired Nokia in a failed attempt at marketing their Nokia-branded feature phones but soon sold those rights to Foxconn and HMD 2016. Nokia then provided its brand and patent licensing to HMD and took a seat on the board of directors.

The new company started producing smartphones under Nokia brands in 2017 and has been around since then.

Nokia 6.1 Plus Review

The Nokia 6.1 plus is not a new phone. It was announced in July 2018 and was released inn August that same year. With some of the specs found on it, it was close to being a flagship device back then – but it wasn’t one.

This smartphone does feature a premium build. The face and rear are made of gorilla glass 3 while the frame is a carefully crafted aluminium. On the outside you get what you paid for but it doesn’t end there.

One of the impressive features on the Nokia 6.1 is the display. Though based on IPS technology, the tweaking from the folks at HMD results in a clear and crisp graphical glass with a max resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels and 432 points per inch density. This phone is neither waterproof nor dust proof but it does have the gorilla glass protection.

One of Samsung’s charm is their ability to upgrade the Android OS across multiple versions – you don’t get this on many brands. Now, you also get this on Nokia. The 6.1 plus comes with Android 8.1 (oreo) and could be upgraded all the way to the new Android 10; though it’s Android one and not the actual Android OS.

Many Nokia phones come bearing Qualcomm’s chip. The 6.1 plus is one of those. Found on this phone is Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 (14 nm). The SDM 636 is a mid-range SoC and has an Octa-core (4×1.8 GHz Kryo 260 Gold & 4×1.6 GHz Kryo 260 Silver) CPU and Adreno 509 graphics processor to its service.

Whatever functions a phone can perform depends solely on the SoC and its wing men – the CPU and GPU. Hence, the Noikia 6.1 plus comes in 3 variants which are 32GB + 4GB RAM, 64GB + 4GB RAM and 64GB + 6GB RAM.

I must mention that your RAM size does not affect your internal memory in any way. Instead, it has a major role to play in the phone’s performance; which may include saving and retrieving files. Hence, the higher the better. The last statement is only true for Android devices though.

Nokia 6.1 plus camera

The Nokia X6 features dual rear camera and a single selfie or front-facing camera. The rear camera is includes a 16MP wide lens as main shooter while the 5MP lens feeds the depth engine to capture professional bokeh images. It comes with a dual-LED flash for flaslight and shutter.

The front camera is 16MP and without a flash. I must mention though that this phone is capable of capturing 4K images at 30 frames per second. Also, the Nokia 6.1 leaves out the Zeiss optics found on many Nokia phones.

Next in line, we have the battery. On this phone, all we get is a built-in 3,060 mAh Li-ion battery. Thanks to Qualcomms’s quick charge 3.0, this phone has up to 18W charging speed.

The Nokia 6.1 plus supports 2G, 3G and LTE networks. The comm modules include WLAN (Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band, Wi-Fi Direct, hotspot), Bluetooth 5.0 with A2DP and LE, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS and BDS, FM Radio and micro USB 2.0 Type-C 1.0 reversible connector with On-The-Go suppport.

Lest I forget, the fingerprint sensor is rear mounted.

Price in Nigeria

The Nokia 6.1 plus, also known as Nokia X6 isn’t very much expensive. Here in Nigeria, you can get the 4GB + 64GB version for as low as NGN58,000 and the 6GB + 64GB version fro about NGN67,000.

on Amazon though, the 4GB + 64GB version costs no more than USD140
