Tecno Camon 15 Air And Infinix S5 Comparison

We’re today bringing the new and shiny Tecno Camon 15 Air and the not-so-new but still shiny Infinix S5 to the ring for a face off. Yes, the Infinix S5 was released last year (2019) but that doesn’t mean the Tecno Camon 15 Air will troll it with a single wave of the punch. It is afterall, a stripped down version.

If you haven’t seen our review or full specs of these smartphones, do well to check them out. And don’t forget to share this article across your social medias. Thanks.

Design and Display

Infinix s5 4GB 64GB

Like many smartphones. The Tecno Camon 15 Air shares certain design similarities with the Infinix S5 smartphone. Both smartphones are 6.6″ tall (base to top) and both phones adopt the punch hole selfie camera design. The control keys are on the right hand sides while the sim plates/slots are found on their left sides.

On the back, the camera arrays (though not the same number) are found on the top-left side; vertically lined up with the LED flash sitting right beside the first camera. The fingerprint scanners for both phones maintains the traditional location – you know where.

These phones take their similarities further to the display by sporting almost the same display features. While both phones sport the same screen size and resolution, their screen-to-dody ratio and pixel densities are different by a pinch.

If you’re holding them side by side, I doubt you’ll notice any difference. So let’s just ignore that. The Camon 15 Air however comes protected with Corning gorilla glass 3.

Platform, Storage & Battery

On a serious note, both the Camon 15 Air and the S5 are more similar than we thought initially. These phones come with exactly the same chipset, CPU and GPU. Mediatek MT6762 Helio P22 (12 nm), 2.0GHz Octa-Core Cortex-A53 and PowerVR 8320 respectively. The Camon 15 Air however, comes with Android 10.0 while the Infinix S5 comes with Android 9.

Slight difference on the storage part as the Infinix S5 features 64GB internal storage and 4GB RAM while Tecno Camon 15 Air features 64GB ROM + 3GB RAM. This “slight” difference however, is significant.

Now on the battery, the S5 features a non-removable 4,000 mAh Li-Po battery while the Camon 15 Air comes with a non-removable 5,000 mAh Li-Po battery. Both phones also comes with fast charge technology for quick top ups.

Camera, Comms & Network

Both smartphones come with fairly nice cameras. They produce awesome photos on a normal but here are the technical specs which matter in certain conditions and for certain effects.

For the Camon 15 Air, there are 4 sensors. A 48 MP (f/1.8, PDAF) – this is the main lens, a 2MP (macro) lens for width, another 2MP (depth) lens which allows for bokeh effect and a QVGA (looks like a lens) which we truly do not know what its job is. Although Tecno claimed it to be a light sensor or AI something something.

For the selfie camera, Tecno installed an 8MP lens in the punch hole on the display. This is supported by a soft flash in case of bad lighting.

The Infinix S5 on the other hand sports 3 sensors and of course the QVGA (which we think very little of). We have a 16MP (f/1.8, PDAF) wide lens as the main sensor, a 5MP (14mm) ultrawide lens for more width and a 2MP depth sensor which of course gives us the bokeh effect.

The selfie camera however pulls more mega pixels at 32MP. It is also supported by a soft flash.

The comms and network features are the same. Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, FM radio, WLAN (Wi-Fi, hotspot) and microUSB 2.0 for comms and for network support, we have 2G, 3G and 4G.

Price in Nigeria

The Infinix S5 has been around for a while longer than the Camon 15 Air and so is expected to be cheaper. However, both phones are expected to fall anywhere between #45,000 to #55,000.

Picking a winner among these phones isn’t very straightforward as people share different views. While some people would give it to the S5 because of the RAM, other people will give it to the Camon 15 Air because of its battery.

While both arguments are valid, I’d rather go for more RAM than bigger battery. I’ll also like to mention that Infinix S5 Lite is 32/64GB ROM + 3GB RAM and it’s different from this one.
