Tecno Camon 15 Premier & Infinix S5 Pro Comparison

As at the time of writing this article, both the Tecno Camon 15 Premier and the Infinix S5 Pro are the latest releases from Tecno and Infinix respectively and could to some extent be regarded as the best. Both phones are released just this year. Both phones run Android 10 and both phones come loaded with massive storage. However, let’s see which one trashes the other.

Design & Display

Both the Camon 15 Premier and the S5 Pro are attractive. They have some similarities and a few differences which includes their size and colours.

While Tecno makes the Camon 15 Premier a 6.6″ device, Infinix settles for a lesser size of 6.53. It’s not much difference but it’s something.

Their front cameras reside in a pop up socket on the right hand side and directly behind it at the back of the phone resides the back camera lineup. But while the Camon 15 Premier sports 4 lenses, the S5 Pro comes with 3, hence a longer “black line” on the Premier’s back.

Their fingerprint sensors are located at the traditional spot at the back, the power and volume buttons are found on the right-hand side, the loudspeakers, USB port, mic and 3.5mm jack are located at the base in both phones and we have the speaker (for calls), flash and proximity sensor at the top edge.

The Camon 15 Premier has slightly thick bezels and could be gotten in 2 colours which are Ice Jadeite and Opal White but the S5 Pro has thinner bezels and comes in 3 colours which are Nebula Black, Quetzal Cyan and Violet.

Infinix S5 Pro

If the Camon 15 Premier and the S5 Pro had been the same size, they probably would have sported the same display but while the Camon 15 Premier features a 6.6″ IPS LCD, its resolution maxing out at 1080 x 2340 and pixel density being 390 pixels-per-inch, the S5 Pro features a 6.53″ IPS LCD, its resolution also maxed out at 1080 x 2340 but its pixel density is 395 pixels-per-inch.

The S5 Pro is a tiny bit lighter than the Camon 15 Premier at 195g and 203g respectively.

Platform, Storage & Battery

In my opinion, this is the round that determines the winner among these smartphones. But that’s probably because I care more about these 3 things than any other thing while picking a phone.

Both the Camon 15 Premier and the S5 Pro is powered by Mediatek MT6765 Helio P35 (12nm) with 8 cores (4×2.35 GHz Cortex-A53 & 4×1.8 GHz Cortex-A53). There’s no difference at all in the processor features of these smartphones. The processor is supported by PowerVR GE8320 GPU with Max speed clocked at 680mhz.

Whatever differences found in these phones’ function will only be because of the UI each one runs. The S5 Pro comes with XOS 6.0 while the Camon 15 Premier comes with HiOS 6.0. Performance wise however, neither will outdo the other.

Now on to the storage. While Tecno offers only a single version of the Camon 15 Premier which features 128GB internal storage and 6GB RAM, Infinix doled out 2 variants of the S5 Pro; one featuring 64GB internal storage and 4GB RAM while the other features 128GB internal storage and 6GB RAM. With this, you have more to chose from.

Like most things on these phones, the batteries powering them are just the same. 4,00mAh Li-Po battery. No more, No less.

Camera, Comms & Network

For the ladies and other photo addicts, the main concern here is the camera(s) installed on these smartphones. Comms and network are important too but there’s not much surprise there.

The Camon 15 Premier packs 4 sensors: 64 MP [f/1.9, 26mm (wide), 1/1.72″, 0.8µm, PDAF], 5 MP [f/2.2, 14mm (ultrawide)], 2 MP, [f/2.8, (depth)] and a QVGA low-light sensor as the rear camera setup while it comes with a single 32MP sensor for selfies.

The S5 Pro on the other hand features 3 sensors: 48 MP [f/1.8, (wide), 1/2.0″, 0.8µm, PDAF], 2 MP, (depth) and a QVGA low light camera sensor as the rear camera combo and a single 16MP front camera.

There’s a variant which comes with 48MP main rear camera and 40MP front camera and another variant which comes with 16MP main rear camera and 32MP selfie camera. Confused? Yeah, I can relate.

What I’ll like to let you know however, is the fact that high pixels doesn’t always equal good pictures. It has its advantages but the disadvantages aren’t left out either.

Basically, with higher pixels, you get better zoom and if you snap in a well lit environment, you’ll get a better picture than you’ll get with a lower pixel but this depends on some other things. This include the size of the camera (mm), the aperture (f/n.n) and the AI receiving the information from the sensors. You’ll however get decent pictures from any of these smartphones.

Like I’ve said earlier, there are no surprises when it comes to comms and network. These phones come with the same SoC and CPU. Hence, the same comes and network features which are: WLAN (Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band, Wi-Fi Direct, hotspot), Bluetooth (5.0, A2DP, LE), GPS (Yes, with A-GPS), FM Radio and micro USB (2.0, USB On-The-Go).

Though there’s a few differences in their network bands, their speed remain the same.

Price in Nigeria

Pricing is an important element in sales and marketing. The sellability of a commodity mostly depends on the amount of money placed on it. Let’s see if any of these smartphones is worth its pricing.

Though neither of these devices is yet to be found on Jumia, after much research, they’re both found to fall between #50,000 to #65,000 depending on the storage you opt for and also the camera combo for the infinix. This however is not considered expensive.

Based on the information provided above, I can only say none of these smartphones is better than the other. You can simply pick a liking for one based on your brand preference.
